Lovely vessel. She once managed to stowe 1860 (japanese) cars in her holds. That was quite a few for this ship. Still in service? Let´s track her down.
Takk Tomaso!

Ja, uten tvil! Dæven meg en av de flotteste båtene jeg har sett noen gang. Jeg visste altså ikke at det hadde vært en M-serie før.. Gantrykran-m ene.
Denne her var jo helt strøken.
Bra konsert? Jeg har fått knipsa litt i hælja, artig det.

If you like this style of vessel then check out similar ones from Wallenius ( Figaro, Tosca, Traviata, Rigoletto & Madam Butterfly ) built around the same time and from several other companies, Nedlloyd Carwell looks similar, all of them carry the car tween decks stowed on deck when in bulker mode. I believe the clasification is BV ie Bulk/Vehicle, later vessels had elevators between the holds in box like structures with cranes on top and no derrecks.

Later conversions saw large garages added on top like the recent views posted of MV Esra and a second bridge added fwd for visibility.

I dont know why Traviata is sailing under the Wallenius flag as that name is a popular name for many Ugland and later HUAL Vessels, but she carries OW in my FOTOFLITE photos.

I will dig all my car carrier notes out this week and see if l can find any more info on these types of vessel, most did end up with China shipping names.

Best

Hoegh Mallard is one of Leif Hoegh's early combi carriers, part bulk carrier, part car
carrier, you can see the car decks stowed by the hatch covers on the main deck.
Built 1966, 16428 GRT, 178m LOA, 15 Knts.

Sisters
Hoegh:- Marlin, Merchant, Merit, Musketeer

A very rare picture of a 1960's car carrier, thanks for sharing.

Best

Michael
