Description:
The isle of Krk enjoyed three ro-ro ferry connections with the mainland: Crikvenica - Šilo (since 1958), Črišnjeva - Voz and Senj - Baška. In 1980 a bridge replaced the ferries. The KAČJAK was one of a series built in 1954/55 for the Yugoslavian military forces (probably the army?) as PDS 707. Disposed of in the mid-sixties, these vessels found a new job with Jadrolinija and Rapska plovidba as roll-on roll-off ferries. The KAČJAK is photographed at Crikvenica in what may be her first year in Jadrolinija's service (postcard sent August 1966). Jadrolinija owned seven ro-ro's of this type, which were modernized in the eighties. The KAČJAK and two others were lost in 1991. The last remaining of this series, the BADIJA, was sold in 2006.
