Description:

Tug Presque Isle detaches from its barge, also named Presque Isle, and prepares to depart Erie, 3 July 2004 at 1030 hours. The tug was on its way to Port Weller Dry Docks for repairs. To get there, it had to transit the Welland Canal, and its barge is too large to fit through the canal, so it was left at Erie.

The tug was built in Mississippi in 1973, and the bow of the barge at Bay City, Michigan. The hull of the barge was built at Erie, and the unit is named for the peninsula that can be seen in the background, which is Presque Isle State Park. "Presque Isle" is French for "almost an island."
