Is the large space under the funnel for an inert gas system??? Did OBo's have IG system??

Not really for a 70,s construction,, always somehow 35-40 crew,add a few training places and the accommodation is rather normal for that time ?

My Ship often encountered this vessel, and I was always intrigued by how much accommodation this had.
