Description:

Here is an odd one,A Dutch Barge laid up in Spiddal,Co.Galway,Ireland in the Atlantic Ocean!
"Catherina" (Reg No on transom is 'P15350F') was moored outside Galway Harbour for a few years and may have been used as a residence. After a while of apparent abondonment, she was "Rescued" and it was said that she was destined to become a Dinner Cruiser in Tralee,Co.Kerry.However, months after being removed from her former berth ,she has moved less than 10 miles down the Bay and left to fend for herself again. The elements are hard on a vessel hereabouts, and if something is'nt done soon, she wont survive.

I saw her last October while I was in Ireland for a SAR conference. She seemed to be in good shape. But yet, I was surprised to see this particular vessel to be so far away from Holland...

Hi Desgagnesh,
I kept a interested eye on her whenever I visited Galway over the past few years. but the rate of decay seems to have accelerated...perhaps it's just the loads of sand which have stuck to her (and the 'fastfisher' alongside) but the vessel certainly has gone downhill. Quite a few Dutch barges have made it(on their own bottoms)around to Limerick and up onto the River Shannon to be converted to liveaboards but as the max size through Ardnacrusha Lock is 29.2mtrs all are smaller than Catharina
