I took this about 1980/81 I think when she made a return visit to Meadowside Quay in Glasgow with a grain cargo berthed across from her birthplace.

Paul - Have enjoyed your "Irish Boats" pictures. Presume you know they were in a joint venture with Reardon-Smith ? Known as Celtic Bulk Carriers and concentrated on running out to the Nopac with Steel and homewards to , mainly Cardiff, and Antwerp with Lumber. However, everything started to go wrong when they took on , I believe, four "Panamaxes" on long term time-charter , at least two years, at the top of The Market, only for the Market to go through the floor the next months :-o They should have known better. Anyway, the Irish Governemnt , who owned Irish Shipping said "no more" and that was that :-( From memory, again, Meadowside Quay was tidal and you sat on very soft mud at low water. Think the draft alongside at High Water was about 28'6" . Anyway all gone now. Probably a nice wee wine bar selling "Buckie" on "the rocks" :-D

Hi- glad you/ve enjoyed the pics. Have a soft spot for the early Cardiff Class bulkers and have been lucky enough to have been able to get on board some of them on return visits to Glasgow including IRISH PINE and subjected to good Irish hospitality!
I did hear about the problem with the Panamax bulkers. IRISH SPRUCE was on repairs in Glasgow when the crash came if I remember correctly.
As to Meadowside- if you enter a Search for "Meadowside" in the Harbour Overview section you'll see what it looks like now- not a pretty sight! :-(
