Description:

The Institute of Old History of the university of Hamburg has rebuilt this ancient roman, 16 m long patrol boat on a Harburg shipyard. Two thousand years ago it was used as escort- and supply ship on rivers as Rhine or Moselle by the romans.
At the moment til May 2008 it will be intensively testet on the Ratzeburg lake by professor Schäfer and his twenty legionnaires (students of the above mentionned university).

Yesterday I had the pleasure to join the crew as one of the rowers an together we rowed with as speed of maximum 4,6 kn without mast and sail, with mast and sail from 2,1 to 3,6 kn.

In the middle of May the modern romans will row the boat from Ratzeburg down the Wakenitz to Lübeck. There ist will be moved to the Elbe-Lübeck-Canal to get to Lauenburg. reaching Lauenburg the journey goes down the Elbe to Hamburg.

From summer on the above described patrol boat will promote the exebition "Imperium, Konflikt, Mythos- 2000 Jahre Varusschlacht" on Danube, Rhine, Lip, Ems and Weser.
