Description:
MSC Jeanne berthed at Napier 25/5/2008, challenging the most ardent of photographers. She was due to go to anchor at 0830 in nice sunshine, but intermittent engine problems delayed her departure at the last moment. Extra lines were attached and the tugs remained alongside "pushing", but all efforts to gain full engine power over the next 3 hours were in vain. With Nele Maersk waiting for the berth, pressure was on and eventually she came right and went to anchor at 1215 to await completion of priority vessels, But by this time the photographers had given up a couple of hours before but not before the alongside shot taken for the record. After Nle Maersk and Ariake worked their cargo she returned to berth and the extra time enabled her engine repairs to be completed. The New Zealand MSA had detained her during this period. She completed and sailed 0730 27.4 but this time did not thwart the camera's.
While these moments a thorn in the side of the opertaors and customer, good to see the older types even though they may make photography a challenge. She was built in 1979 and after a period as Neptune Diamond, NOL Diamond and more recently APL Diamond for her Singaporean owners, she was taken over by MSC in 2004.
