Hi Geir

Thought this piece of news would be of interest:

Vinashin cargo ship sinks off Vung Tau following collision

(22-08-2008)

BA RIA – VUNG TAU — A cargo ship owned by Viet Nam Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (Vinashin) sank in Vung Tau territorial waters after it collided with another vessel on Wednesday.

After a collision with the Vinashin Pacific on its way from Vung Tau to Indonesia last Saturday, the Green Viship was moved to shallow waters.

As of Wednesday afternoon, its two holds were below the surface while some cabins were still above water.

The recovery process for the Green Viship’s freight and oil began immediately after the accident. As of Wednesday, Vung Tau-based Sao Mai Limited Company pumped about 170 tonnes of fuel oil from the boat.

Repairs to the ship have stopped in light of Hurricane Nuri.

Vung Tau Port Authorities reported no fatalities from the accident. — VNS
