Description:

IRENE is seen in the (since filled in) Bidston Dock at Birkenhead on 6th April 1992

Built at Sunderland in 1976 as CEDARBANK, she was purchased by Fafalios Ltd in 1983 and renamed ELLY and then, in 1991, IRENE, still managed by Aegeus Shipping S.A. (D.G.Pateras) of Piraeus, and in 1997 NINI on transfer to the Bahamas flag. She was beached at Alang on 2.2.99 to be broken up.

First ship to be built in the new Pallion (formerly Doxfords) covered in building dock. These were floated out not launched in the conventional way. Doxford 670J6 contract no 455. From 1972 there were 19 Bank Line ships built at Sunderland between Dofxords and Sir James Laings yards, all with Doxford engines
