Description:

Protected Cruiser OLYMPIA bult by Union Iron Works San Francisco California and commissioned in 1895. Length 344 feet, beam 53 feet, draft 21 feet, displacement 5870 tons; propulsion 2 triple expansion steam engines for a total of 17,800 horsepower supplied with steam from 6 coal fired scotch fire tube boilers burning 20 tons of coal per hour. Commodore Dewey's flagship at the battle of Manila Bay in Spanish American war May 1, 1898. Seen at Penn's Landing Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, August 3, 2008 . . .
