Description:

Outbound Beaumont, Tx. Neches River. 08.Sep.08.
Beats me what this guy did, I saw him moving on to the side and then giving full power ahead for 3-4 minutes and then he pulled back off again.
Any tug capt here who can light me up on this ?

This is usually done following major engine or reduction gear repairs or repowering. They will find something solid to push against full ahead to let the engines and gears warm up and read the gauges, etc., to see that everything is okay after the work. I'll bet this was close to a shipyard or repair yard.

Hi Dan
Thanks for the explanation. It was about 1 mile upper river of the Rainbow Bridge
crossing the Neches there. A little further up I think was a little repair area, with a few other tugs also tied up there. But I did not see any lifting dock etc in that area.
