Description:
Typical Southern North Sea side trawler at Lowestoft 22/3/81. Much of the Lowestoft fishing fleet was redundant by this time and many of this type were hastily converted to oil rig standby/safety vessels. However, it became apparent after only a few years (note Piper Alpha) that these old, slow ships with poor manoeuverability were not up to the task, and they soon became redundant once again.
