Photo taken 11 or 12 October 1967, on her first visit to Dunedin, NZ, just outside the harbour entrance, and on charter to Columbus Line (Hamburg-Sud).
Designed as an open-closed shelter deck vessel with closed ship tonnage shown above.
Launched 25/3/1960 and completed in July 1960
Builder: Kieler Howaldtswerke A.G., Kiel, Germany.
Propulsion:7-cyl M.A.N. diesel of 7,600 bhp. Service speed - 16.5 knots.
Known to have made four visits to NZ between 10/1967 and 11/12/1968.
1960 - "BIRGITTE SKOU" - Ove Skou Rederi A/S, Copenhagen, Denmark.
1979 - "EBEL" - Cia. Naviera Polina S/A, Panama
1980 - "DESANMAR" - Ocean Marine Co., Piraeus, Greece.
1982 - "NEW HAINING" - New Hailung Naviera S/A, Panama.
10/1988 - broken up at Huangpu, Guangzhou, China.

Another one of your excellent photographs.Always admired the Skou ships though they must have been a Mate's nightmare to keep those hulls pristine white and clean. She appears to be in Hamburg-Sud colours to whom she was no doubt on time-charter , which was a Skou speciality. Once remember an Ove Skou master jokingingly say "The trouble with Mr. Skou , he thinks charterers want to buy his ships when they fix them". Probably why Skou priced himself out of the Market in the end. Sad really.
