Russian Border Guard (береговая охрана) patrol vessel VOROVSKIY is shown moored in Dutch Harbor, Alaska, on September 3, 2009. The VOROVSKIY was built in Kerch, Ukraine, in 1990 as a variant of the 'Krivak' frigate design intended for Maritime Border Guard service in the Pacific. The ship displaces 3670 tons and has an overall length of 405 feet with a beam of 46 feet. The ship is propelled by gas turbines with 48,000 horsepower for her twin propellers which gives her a speed of 30 knots. A bit heavily armed for her present duties as a fishery patrol vessel, some of her armament includes surface to air missiles, eight 21 inch torpedo tubes, a 100 mm/59 caliber gun mount forward, mine laying capability, 2 30 mm anti aircraft guns, anti submarine warfare capability with a variable depth sonar, 3 different fire control systems as well as a helicopter landing deck and hangar aft. She carries a crew of 198 officers and men. The ship has been a frequent visitor to Alaska in the past conducting numerous exercises with the U.S. Coast Guard.
