To find the category for browsing or uploading, go to the end of the Category Listing

This category provides directions to good shipspotting locations. It is not to be used for merely uploading photographs.

A separate photo upload is to be used for each good city/town camera location described by a member. More than one location can be uploaded by one member. More than one member may identify locations in one city/town.

Ideally, this should show the camera location, where the photographer would be, But any shot of the general area is acceptable. Site standards do not apply for this photo.

If the uploading member does not have a photo of the shipspotting location, one from the Internet for the general area can be used PROVIDED such use does not breach copyright. Some city tourist development organisations have sites available for this purpose.

Use the sequence
• ALWAYS Location/City/Town (upper case for first letter only)

• IF NEEDED State/County/Provence (upper case for first letters only)

• ALWAYS Country (all letters in UPPER CASE)

DIRECTIONS TO LOCATION
Use the Description box on the Upload a new photo page to direct members to the location(s) mentioned in the Ship Name box.

USE THE WORDS YOU WOULD RELATE TO A FRIEND TO TELL THEM HOW TO GET TO THE LOCATION FROM ONE OR MORE STARTING POINTS

No fixed format is required. Some or all of the following can be used
• Section/suburb of city/town
• Street name
• Available means of transport to location.
• use of Marine Traffic maps
• Sources for useful tourist information
• Other information that could help

OPTION - CAN BE ADDED TO DESCRIPTION AT ANY TIME
• Geographic co-ordinates for use with Google Maps and Google Earth.
• HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO SHOW LOCATION MAPS AND IMAGERY SEE HELP BELOW.

Take Taronga Zoo ferry from Circular Quay. Then 20 minute bush track walk from wharf, keeping water on right.
By car. Military Road to Bradleys Head Road, after zoo take left turn off to Bradleys Head (in Ashton Park).

Choose category for Shipspotting Locations, at the end of the list of Categories.

Until members have uploaded many locations, Click Search to see all on the site

WHEN THE SITE HAS MANY UPLOADS IN THE CATEGORY

Use Advanced Search, Choose the Shipspotting Locations category and then enter City/Town OR Country needed in the Ship name box “Anywhere (Slow)”

There may be several locations for the City/Town, uploaded by one or more members.


CO-ORDINATES

If co-ordinates are not provided by the member, you may be able to determine them by entering in the Google Earth Search box the narrative location description.

If you do have co-ordinates, enter them in Google Maps and view the street maps and imagery

If not on your system, download (free) Google Maps and also Google Earth

Use Google Earth to determine co-ordinates for desired location and for showing locations on water.
Use Google Maps for showing street maps on land and imagery of surroundings.

To determine co-ordinates, Open Google Earth >>> in Search box enter name of location desired (PRACTICE WITH YOUR RESIDENTIAL ADDRESS) >>> click Search >>> use lower set of left, right, up, down arrows on top right of screen to move marker >>> from Edit tab above Search box, click Copy View Location >>> clear Search box of any existing data, click ctrl + V (paste) >>> click Search. Repeat until desired location determined. Leave that on system clipboard (i.e. do nothing)

Open your file prepared for uploading. Where co-ordinates are required in Description field, click ctrl + V (paste)
