Thanks Cody

It's rare for one of these to be seen in Port Jackson

Clyde, what's that grey contraption behind the bridge? This wouldn't happen to be one of the rare coal-fired bulkers would it? I thought a few of those were built for Australian interests in the 80s...

Hi Ralph

I found this in a Google search "built by Mitsubishi at Nagasaki for ANL. 'Paper' owners being River Embley Pty Ltd. Single screw, turbine powered, twin boiler design using coal as fuel" Miramar Ship Index confirms the builder.

Thanks Clyde,

Been checking it out myself as well in the meantime, and she is indeed coal-fired. The grey thing behind the bridge is the coal bunker. She has a sister, RIVER BOYNE. There were also two other coal-fired bulkers in Australian service, TNT CARPENTARIA and TNT CAPRICORNIA, both built in Italy in '83. TNT CAPRICORNIA was later renamed FITZROY RIVER and was scrapped as ROY last year. TNT CARPENTARIA is still sailing as ENDEAVOUR RIVER.

Brgds.

Thank you for all that Ralph. It was news to me.

I'm glad I deferred breakfast to get the pic.

Best regards
Clyde
