Dsclark09.. I also wondered about the tow stern first and it seems to be a standard towing method because I have seen other derelict ships being towed that way; but, I have no confirmation as to stern-first being a standard towing position. Anyone have knowledge regarding why derelict ships are towed backwards???

Gawd, the least they could do is tow it out bow first...saw it from the maritime academy, broke my heart

says, in part, that "...The President... is the former cargo and passenger vessel President Tyler, built in 1960 and operated by American President Lines out of San Francisco. It has been laid up for 31 years....[at the Suisun Bay mothball fleet]
