I have been clearing my parent home and came across an item off the Akaroa. Its a nitting gauge/measure with the akaroa badge attached to it. Does anyone know if it has any value? I shouldnt think it would but it would be good to know. I believe it must have been a free gift which came with the cabin the passenger would have used. I dont know, does anyone?

As a youngster, I used to travel between Southampton and Rio de Janeiro on this beautiful ship. Everyone was so friendly and helpful and the trips were great fun. Arlanza and Aragon were also on the same route.

I joined her in May 1968 in Royal Docks in London as she completed her last voyage for Royal Mail as Amazon, worked by her in Pursers Office and transformed everything from Royal Mail to Shaw Savill procedures and documentation ready for her maiden voyage to Aust and NZ in Shaw Savill colours on 28th May 1968. Unfortunately did not sail deep sea with her and waited in London for the arrival of next A ship from South America.

There's no denying that these were three very lovely ships. I never tire at looking at pictures of them. I do wonder though if we now hold them in such affection because we see them as three lovely but doomed vessels.

Thank you very much Gordy! I don't know how, but those pictures taken with film seem to capture a warmness that digital just can't match. I don't know much about photography. I hope you have more examples like this very handsome ship. Looking forward to all of them. Thanks again. Alex
