Description:
One of the three preserved WWII Victory Ships, seen moored in the Port of Los Angeles.
Completed in the closing months of WWII, she first delivered supplies to Pacific Islands, then transferred to the Atlantic where she participated in the Marshall Plan. Following a deactivation period, she again went active for the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Found to be in excellent condition in the eighties, she was set aside for preservation on October 18th, 1988.
Apart from an active preservation, cruising multiple times a year, she has also participated in the filming of many movies and TV shows, including Titanic, Pearl Harbor, The Thin Red Line, and U-571.
She is powered by an Aliss-Chalmers cross-compound steam turbine driving twin screws.
