My Mum & Dad used to have #99 Beach Hut on Calshot Beach. I learned to sail at the Activities Centre at the end of the spit. So I know it well. So drive down, park up, choose your fotos and let it go!
I used to live at Hythe and everyday watched the liners arriving and departing.
Calshot is stunning, I see that the grounding was deliberate when she developed a list.

Colwyn as a further incentive the ferry will take you past part of Southampton docks and Fawley refinery tanker berths.

Colwyn Grace ... Allan beat me to the reply. Alternative, why not get a day ticket to travel on the Red Funnel car ferry as a foot passenger ..you could almost touch it from the ferry Southampton to Cowes and return.

Colwyn, I've posted one taken from Calshot - you need a 300mm lens

Chris, is it possible to get a photo from Calshot Spit? I'm considering travelling down from Sunny Sth Yorks to get a couple for myself. Rgds. Colwyn
