Description:

The Maple Grove approaches Clayton, New York, on the St. Lawrence River, early in the morning on June 1, 2006. Built in 1954, the Maple Grove has a length of 73 feet, 7 inches and is owned and operated by Oak Grove Marine and Transportation Inc of Clayton, New York. The book Know Your Ships 2006 lists this vessel as "package freighter." I am not sure how to classify it -- it has the distinct appearance of a U.S. Navy landing craft. Note the truck being transported. This vessel was my reward for driving all night from central Ohio to the St. Lawrence River -- not much was running that day.

As noted in the caption I had driven all night in order to get to the St Lawrence at first light. A fog bank had rolled in so I stopped in Clayton and purchased some doughnuts and tea and was enjoying my breakfast at the village park on the riverbank. I was almost dozing off but this thing would have woken the dead! Thought it was a neat vessel.
