Picton Castle is downbound Welland Canal on this overcast day of 2006-08-25; @ 1855 hrs upbound vessel ALGONTARIO is passing at her starboard. She is tied up above lock 2, waiting to proceed downbound Welland Canal. The Picton Castle was built in 1928 as a fishing trawler. At the start of WWII she served in the Royal Navy and became a minesweeper the HMS Picton Castle. After the WWII she hauled freight in the North and Baltic Seas under a new name Dolmar. In 1992 and 1993, Captain Daniel Moreland took her across the Atlantic to New York City where she was berthed at the South Street Seaport Museum. In 1996, she was taken to Lunenburg in Nova Scotia, Canada, to begin a two-million-dollar refit and a conversion into a square-rigged barque. LOA 179’/DWT 300/12,500 square feet of sail.
