Thank you to all the comments posted. The three photos on the site for this vessel would appear to support the identification of this ship so unless further details become available I have edited the entry to support the OOCL ASSURANCE name> Thank you once again. Anthony.

No problem, Pieter. Our eyes don't get younger ;-)

Looking again at the picture, I think OOCL ASSURANCE could be correct, it matches the general size of the words on the stern.

Joerg is absolutely correct, sorry to have directed you to the Orient route.

Sorry guys,
but for me the prefix looks like OOCL. So I think it is OOCL ASSURANCE (IMO 7718644). What is certain is that the ship was built by Namura Shipbuilding in Imari. 6 ships of this type were built.

Showing my ignorance but did "flower" funnel occur on other than OOCL ships? ie associated companies use their own funnel colours?
In your original you said presumably starting with ORIENT ... is this just a guess or could it be ORIENTAL? Makes the field a lot bigger if so.
If just ORIENT + second name length then Miramar search for ORIENT + rough date range + name length + size does narrow the field down to only a relative few.

Thanks Chas, that is already something to work with, Unfortunately not only OOCL used the prefix Orient.

Anthony, Wikipedia has list of OOCL ship names and types
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OOCL . Perhaps might give a clue to a specific class and then narrow down to name length.

Thanks Pieter, my old pc system would not brighten up the name to even show any characters at all, but the information you have supplied may assist someone else to provide an i d . Best wishes, Anthony

I can light up the stern, and there is a name in black characters, starting presumably with ORIENT and then a second name with 8-9 characters. Home port is Hong Kong.
Searching for ship names starting with Orient is a long and tedious process.
