Description:

The jack up drilling rig Valaris Gorilla VII was built in the USA, in 2001, as Rowan Gorilla VII. The rig has been laid up in Dundee for many years.
Her almost triangular hull is 93m long by 91m wide. Her gross tonnage is 19,526 tons. The rig can carry a load of 6,126 tons.
The rig is designed to drill a 35,000ft well. To enable this, her derrick is rated for a lifting capacity of 1,000 tons.
Her 3 legs are 607ft long, and allows her to work in 400ft of water. This capability means the rig is capable of working in most areas of the UK North Sea, from the Southern Sector off England to the Central sector off mainland Scotland.
