Description:

Off Hound Point Terminal in the Firth of Forth in appalling conditions during the “Beast from the East”. Wind speeds averaged 50kts regularly gusting over 60kts. A very rare occasion when the mighty Hopetoun’s deck is awash, in the Forth, which she never leaves. Picture unedited.

I can’t remember exactly what we were doing when that picture was taken, it’s Hound Point 2 in the background but I do remember sailing a tanker that day from Hound Point 1 (Jag Lakshya) and Hopetoun, which off the top of my head was about 10,000hp / 126t bollard pull, was using 90% power just to stay alongside the tanker. An engine temperature alarm went off, the chief went to investigate and reported back that the thermocouples were melting. This whilst the terminal and pilots debated whether the weather was within limits for sailing a loaded tanker.

I think i would have pooped myself joking guy's was she on a full swing round or some thing to turn around seen them turn 180 turn & more when manoeuvring quickly
