It needs only 1 or 2 men on the raft and one on deck for the crane to operate if equipped with a remote control. Fast, save and easy, better than on wooden planks or from an unstable boat or raft in the water, espescially when other traffic comes by. We even used the spare gangway hanging from the cargo gear to reach the bow parts.

Hi Manfred,
This is only time I have see this method, as it does not look particularly safe and must involve more crew members?

Paul

Hi Paul,
from my experience it is normally a raft they are standing on. Moved around by crane (very convenient to crew) and let it float around to areas where the crane wire cannot be vertical.

Ships crew painting the hull, using the ships crane and not a raft or boat?
