The few opportunities I can shipspot, it is unthinkable in that moment this massive moving structure, made of solid steal, can just slip under without any survivors. Makes me feel very small sometimes.

Compliments of the season Rene, us in the South Pacific very pleased to see your excellent take of Capitaine Torres. She was in the course of a positioning voyage to take up service between New Zealand/Australia and Pacific Islands when she was tragically lost on 8.12.89 with all 23 crew in heavy weather north of Cape Breton Island when her cargo shifted in heavy seas. Sofrana still is an operator of interesting tonnage in these parts, in the same year the company acquired Messageries multi-purpose carrier Velay, as well as started a non-conference Europe service with Hyundai owned charters. Still extant today but part CMA CGM Group with ships prefixed "Sofrana", originally founded in 1967 by New Caledonian interests and has operated a long list of modest sized veterans over the years. Also in 1989, they acquired two 10 year old German, Hyundai built cargo vessels to upgrade their services, and along with Capitaine Torres ex Sunny Karina, sister was Capitaine Dampier ex Sunny Arabella but only spent a few years trading the Pacific before being sold on, scrapped 2003. Your photo would be a rarity of the vessel in Sofrana colours, your posting much appreciated.
Cheers
Brent
