Description:

Lykes Lines US-flag cargoliner FREDERICK LYKES is here seen on the Mississippi River in august 1980.
She was built at Avondale, La. in 1967, as one of many sistervessels from this yard.
In 1986 she was transferred to the US Government, renamed CAPE BOVER, and placed in the Reserve Fleet

One of Lylkes Lines' "Clipper Class" ships, which were built for trans-Pacific service. Those large, fast ships represented the pinnacle of break-bulk cargo ship development prior to the "container revolution". Like all Lykes cargo ships they were built to carry everything, including eight paying passengers.
