Description:

STELITSA,the former LEEDS CITY, built by Wm. Doxford at Sunderland in 1955 and sold to Greece in 1967 was photographed laid up in the Piraeus district on 2nd October 1984 during a Thames Ship Society cruise.

EX - LEEDS CITY - 67 ELLISPONTOS - 70 GEORGETTA - 75 OSIA IRINI CHRYSOVALANDOU - 79

STELITSA was owned by D.Kosmas and C.Karafotias of Piraeus.

Laid up in the Piraeus district from 1st August 1982, STELITSA was eventually towed to Aliaga for breaking in July 1985.

Hi,
Burnt ship on the left is Greek GONGOLA (1971 / 3181 gt / 7111705), ex VESTFALCK -- 1978.
According to Marine News 02/1983 :
'Arrived in tow at Piraeus 1/1/83 severely damaged aft by fire which had broken out in her engine room 29/12/82 when she was south of Crete in a position 34.40 N, 27.00 E during a voyage from Dar-Es-Salam to El Djazair.'
