Description:

The story of the "Stolt Groenland" is well known, see here: https://www.gov.uk/maib-reports/cargo-tank-explosion-and-fire-on-chemical-tanker-stolt-groenland

The extent of her damage was such that to me it looked as if she would be sent to the breaking yard immediately (and I was there to see her on the day of her accident). Not so, for she was first sent to "HSG Sungdong" shipyard, where she was supposed to undergo repairs after being first thoroughly cleaned of all the nasty chemicals (including deadly styrene monomer) still on board.
So, the management and workers at HSG Sungdong were happy to finally get some work after their company emerging from insolvency proceedings; they've cleaned the tanker and were waiting to commence the repair work.
However, it looks to me that her owners had a hidden agenda* - *speculation inadmissible in court :) - clean the ship in South Korea, but repair her in China, where it would've been cheaper. The South Koreans obviously didn't like this idea, so after months of legal pushing and pulling, she was prevented from leaving Korea and later sold to the breakers in Busan, to recover at least some costs. Late last month, when she was getting ready to get towed to Busan, local workers organized to block her departure, still having some hopes to work on rebuilding her.

However, her current state leaves no doubts about her dreary future. Photos taken at "Pal Pal" breaking yard at Gamcheon port in Busan.
