Hi : This beauty was at POA-Porto Alegre- for about 3/4/ days-early 70s unloading some heavy gear , out of hold 3 , if my memory serves me right . As a casual hand , I had to get rid of all the dunnage and the like...good pay , I had...))

Hello Roberto,
we went once uo to Porto Alegre during my time onbord. I think early 1970. What cargo we had I don´t remember but what I ´ll never forget was the trouble in the engine room with the sea intakes., the sea strainers. Due to the draft of the vessel and the low water on the Lagoa dos Patos we were more sliding through the seabed them floating. All engine crew, I was cadet, was permanentely over several hours cleaning the strainers full of mud, shells and other water spezies..... What a job. The engine room at the lower floor looked horrible with the mud and dirt everywhere. But we managed to get to Porto Alegre without stopping the engine and overheating. Years later I went up a couple of times with the Cosmo... ships of Aliança , but we never had any draft problems.
WEll, thats the story of the trip to POrto Alegre

Hello Jürgen,
It's a private postcard without any annotation in the back but the flag indicates that she is at Germany.

Thanks Edson for your aditional info. I was thinking of a NOrth european river. Well, river Elbe or Weser. Our usual ports in Europe were Hamburg, Bremen, Rotterdam and Antwerp. In some ocasions we also went to Rostock, Le Havre, Liverpool, Glasgow and Bristol channel ports and Lisbon. In Brasil Rio, Santos (both southbound and northbound) Paranágua, Salvador and I remember at least one trip up the Lagoa dos Patos to Porto Alegre and one time discharging on Angra dos Reis roads in front of the big shipyard there. For bunkering we stopped at Las Palmas, Tenerife and at least one time in Mindelo/Cabo Verde. Memories of bygone times....
Thanks again Jürgen

Some more infos Edson. If I remember well we unloaded there lifeboats, derricks and other deckgear which we had loaded in Glasgow??? I think. Was the name Verolme Shipyard? My last visit to Angra and Ilha Grande, some 5 or 6 years ago , I could not read a name there. What I remember there were several oilriggs parked.

Correct Jürgen ... The old name of the shipyard is Verolme (an affiliate of the Netherlands headquarters) and now BRASFELS specialized in FPSO's and drill rigs.
