HL has apparently decided to name this vessel BERLIN EXPRESS and make HAMBURG EXPRESS one of the later units. Back in 2022, HL communiations still said that the first one would be HAMBURG EXPRESS...

With thanks to jan_t for the info, I will *finally* change the name to "Berlin Express". :)

Shouldn't they wait until January 2023 to make her a bit younger in the registry? 2023 may sound better for resale then 2022.

That's a good point, Csaba, but only because I used the word "baby" as it would mean something - but the date of her floating out of the dock is not connected to any official document. The keel laying date is the most important date for the validity or relevance of various statutory requirements, and of course she will be registered in 2023, when she'll be delivered (in early April, I think).

But I also remember cases when owners insisted on ASAP deliveries, due to lucrative charter rates.

Hello Roy,

Yes, this series will have the same look. Well, almost the same, as there will be some subtle differences, like LNG vent mast on her port bridge wing, and LNG bunkering station (I think it's that opening next to her lower accommodation ladder).

Cheers,

Vlad

Thanks for the update Vlad.
So she will look the same as the big MSC boys.

She will actually look very different from the MSC vessels (example: MSC ALLEGRA) which have fully-enclosed bridges vs open bridge wings for the Hapag-Lloyd ships. Externally, the HAMBURG EXPRESS will be closer in looks to the HMM ALGECIRAS class. The bow shape (flare, bulb...) looks closer to the MSC type,
