ZOSMA, on 28th March 1922 delivered by Scheepsbouw Maatschappij “De Nieuwe Waterweg” at Schiedam as yard number 111 to Van Nievelt, Goudriaan & Co at Rotterdam. 8429 grt, 5335 nrt, 12510 dwt, 142.44 x 18.30 x 9.61 m, two British Thomson Houston turbines, 4000 ihp, 12 knots, 12 passengers. On 12th September 1931 sold to NV Vereenigde Nederlandse Scheepvaart Maatschappij at The Hague and renamed ZUIDERKERK. In 1934 bow lengthened with Maier-bow by yard Wilton Fijenoord at Schiedam. On 28th August 1942 torpedoed by German U 566, in convoy from Freetown in Sierra Leone to the Clyde, about 300 miles west of Lisbon. Next day the heavily damaged but floating vessel was sunk by gunfire of HMS Leith (a Grimsby-class sloop of the Royal Navy, built 1933, later Danish HDMS Galathea, scrapped at Odense in 1955).
