Description:

Lykes Lines GULF BANKER is here seen at her homeport New Orleans in november 1976.
She was 1964 at Avondale, New Orleans for Gulf & South American S.S.Co, which was a company set up in 1947 by Grace Lines and Lykes. Their vessels sailed between U.S. Gulf ports and South America's west coast.
When Grace Lines withdrew from shipping, the Gulf & South American fleet was in 1971 taken over by Lykes Lines, but the vessels continued with their GULF prefix.
In 1984 GULF BANKER was transferred to the U.S. Government (MARAD).
16 march 2013 GULF BANKER left the reserve fleet site at Beaumont, Tx. under tow for breakers at Brownsville, Tx.
