Delivered June 1981 by HDW to Hapag Lloyd, the FRANKFURT EXPRESS is shown here outbound from Rotterdam, around 1984. Her TEU capacity of 3430, was already 500 more than the similar sized TOKIO EEXPRESS, delivered in 1973 and at the time part of the series of non-plus-ultra containerships ordered for the TRIO Service.

The Frankfurt remained in HAPAG Service until 2007, and was then sold MSC, and renamed MSC ATHINA but she had clearly reached the end of her economic life, as she was sold to Pakistan for breaking up in 2009.
