Description:

One of a class of seven vessels, five of which were built on Tyneside by Swan Hunter & Wigham Richardson, Wallsend, destined to provide a monthly service between Liverpool and the Persian Gulf.
Surprisingly Clan Line sold two of the five to Indian owners in 1965 and the other three to Iranian owners in 1968
Seen here at North Shields on June 4th 1962 the freighter is arriving from East Africa and will discharge cargo at Newcastle Quayside

Fantastic picture of a classic.

They were designed for the jute trade from Bangladesh, one large lower hold and no tween deck. When that trade was lost, to competition, the ships were not suitable for other trades due the lack of a tween deck, so they were sold.
