SS Gothic (1947 - 1969)
Built for UK to New Zealand via Panama Canal service
Accommodation for 85 x 1st Class passengers
1952: Refitted at Cammell Laird to become the Royal Yacht for a tour of Australia and
New Zealand. The tour was cancelled due to the death of King George VI.
However considerable work had already been completed and she returned in 1953 to complete the refit, which included a white-painted hull.
She was then used for Queen Elizabeth II's coronation world tour in 1954.
01/08/1968: Serious fire around the bridge area. 7 people died in the fire.
She was on her way from Wellington to Panama and returned to Wellington.
13/08/1969: Arrived at Kaohsiung for breaking up by China Steel Corp.
