Description:

Bristol City Line's 1956 Readhead built NEW YORK CITY was photographed sailing from Avonmouth for New York exactly sixty years ago today, on 12th November 1963.

Sold early in 1968 and renamed AVIS ORNIS, she became FELICITY in 1970, owned by Thenamaris of Greece.

FELICITY had first sailed from Gdansk on 3rd December 1970 bound for Tampa and finally sailed from Mizushima on 3rd November 1971 bound for Hsinkang (Tianjin).

She was still listed as FELICITY under the People's Republic of China in the March 1981 Lloyd's Confidential Index but not in 1982. Although listed in Miramar as broken up in China 1971/2, she was not deleted from register until 1992.

It is now thought that she might have subsequently traded into the 1980s under the Chinese flag, based at Tianjin, as JI HAI 1 or JI HAI 2.

The Tianjin-based JI HAI fleet had started about this time. JI HAI 3, acquired in 1972, originally East Asiatic's MALAYA 8437/47, was kept until 1980.
