She is probably one of the two last examples of the "empire" ships that one can see above the water. The other is the EMPIRE TRUMPET which remains aground as the KOULA F in Iran.
Of course there are some EMPIRE which are unaccounted, such as the EMPIRE STARLIGHT which was last reported in 1979 as the storage hulk MURMANSK at Nakhodka, Soviet Union.
Who knows maybe she still remains there...

Picture is a couple of months old. The wreck is in very poor condition and climbing on it became very dangerous. This was a very popular extreme sport in the last 30 years. One can enter inside the hull trough the hole made in the engine room portside wall (the black spot you can notice amidship at sea level) and then climbe up to the deck. There are some "small entrepeneurs" (gipsies) which began to cut on the starboard but nothing serious. I think she can resist another 10 - 15 years, despite she has some big cracks on deck and sides. I have the details of building and ex names from P. M. Heaton's book "Redbrook. A deep sea tramp". Unfortunately I lost the book, but I can remember that in the moment I saw the picture on the book's cover I said : "Look, this is our wreck in Costinesti !". Interesting piece of glorious british history, isn't it ?

Nic, when did you took this picture? I ask because there were some rumours a couple of years ago that she was going to be scrapped on the spot.
