Dirk, agree with you, the remodelling of the funnels should have been much better. Cabins on the promenade deck where economic driven. Other than that she was a great ship to sail in.

Clive, I wouldn't mind if you did. The most obvious mistakes of course can be seen in the remodeling of her funnels and the construction of cabins on her Promenade Deck. I would love to read more! You can of course PM me if you prefer!

Captain Graham, let us just put to one side for a moment the classic perfection of this ship as built. P&O's 'modernising' was ill-thought out and a long way off 'nearly making it.' I could make a whole list of the 'wrong things' about this conversion but it would take too long.

Good attempt to modernize this classic ship. Nearly made it. CG

A3B, I think the ship you refer to was the previous Kungsholm which in 1965 was sold and renamed Europa. Ship posted above was launched as Kungsholm in 1965, built in yard 728 at Browns, Clydebank. Cheers

person
No, you have confused this ship with the earlier Kungsholm. The above details are 'almost' correct, in that at the time of her construction it was the John Brown's shipyard.

It was probably our best trip when we re-positioned back to Vancouver from Honolulu in 1989 after a week in Maui, and a week at honolulu, she was a fine sea boat! mrdot.

person
Agree Mr.Dot not the best of conversions, however as you say, still a good looking ship. Thanks.

person
Looked her best as built, however she looked good here as well! mrdot.
