Description:

Holder of the Blue Riband, trans atlantic speed record. The famous ocean liner is pictured here in the English channel, on her way to the atlantic having departed Southampton. Cruising speed was 32 knots with a max speed of 38.32 knots. The date is most probably July 1969.

Built in 1952 she operated until Nov 1969. She has been docked on the Delaware river, Philadelphia, since 1996.

Thank you Clive for noticing that, having consulted with my family it would most probably be July 1969. July because that is when we always went away & 1969 because that`s when we first went to the South coast.

One of my great uncles crossed twice with her the ATL to BHV ? around 1966-67 when he came back to visit his siblings after being 40 years in the US. I still remember him from that time walking around in the village

I'm confused by the above; it is stated that it is believed that this photo was taken in probably July 1972. Yet in the line below is the statement that she operated until 1969.
That latter statement is correct, she ceased operation in November 1969, so there is no way that this photo could have been taken in July 1972.
