Description:

River Itchen Southampton...Information provided by Fatdeeman...This is the final, uncompleted HM5 sidewall hovercraft made by the hovermarine company in Woolston. It was damaged by fire in what was rumoured to be an insurance job and then remained behind the former hovermarine factory (spitfire quay) on the Itchen river for many years before being moved round to northam. It spent some time on land near the river and then was moved back into the water and was moored up near to the northam bridge for many years.

It has recently been moved a few hundred meters further up the river and can be clearly seen from the cobden bridge. It's likely that it will eventually be converted into a house boat.

Well, I was right in a sense, this ship is a SES (Surface Effect Ship) which combines the air cushion of an hovercraft on a catamaran hull. There is a picture of the project of HM5 showing screws, not an hovercraft thing. https://www.nature.com/articles/253391a0.pdf?platform=oscar&draft=collection

I am not sure it is an hovercraft. Found it on Google Earth and seems to be there since 2012, at least.
