Completed 1950 for Blue Star Line
she had one sister Auckland Star not completed until 1958.

Up to the 1960's these two were the most powerful ships employed on the NZ trades with a single propellor, which weighed 27 tons with a 21 foot diameter, as big as any of the four on the Queen Mary.

In April 1953 she established a trans tasman record, crossing from Brisbane to New Plymouth at an average speed of 18.69 knots.

Her maiden voyage was to Australia with a large deck cargo which included two railway locomotives and many prefabricated houses.

The Tasmania Star was powered by Parsons steam turbines whilst as you say the Auckland Star was not completed for a further 8 years and was fitted with a Pametrada turbine set. 2 further ships of the class were the Adelaide Star and Wellington Star and were both diesel powered.
