Built 1940 as C3 cargo liner Mormacmail
shortly before completion sold to USN and converted to Auxiliary Aircraft carrier USS Long Island

1946 released from service and sold in 1947 for breaking up, then resold for rebuilding.
1949 rebuilt as passenger ship and renamed Nelly
on Bremerhaven - Melbourne service
1953 refitted for North Atlantic service renamed Seven Seas
1960 visited NZ on a cruise
18/7/1965 serious fire in Atlantic
1966 repairs complete 6/1966 but sold 9/1966 for use as accommodation ship as seen above at Rotterdam
1977 broken up at Ghent arrived 4/5/1977

The first ship that made me seasick below the Euromast in Rotterdam after too many french fries with too much beer.

As a kid I saw this ship on several occasions in New York harbor, and thought how unusual to see lifeboats forward of the bridge. Very nice picture. Was it taken in Auckland or "as seen above at Rotterdam".?
