Charlene Hunt left St. John's towing the derelict "Lyubov Orlova" to be scrapped in Mexico. The weather was deteriorating rapidly and the tow-wire parted. Charlene Hunt was unable to re-connect the tow. Lyubov Orlova which disappeared into the fog, heading for the Hibernia oil platforms. The Canadian government hired an oil-rig tug to tow the "Lyubov Orlova" away from the platforms, and the tug succeeded, but again the tow broke in the bad weather. Lyubov Orlova drifted off into the Atlantic and was never seen again. Some days later, the Orlova's EPIRBS went into Alarm mode. The Lyubov Orlova is assumed to have sunk.
