The 1946 Bartram, Sunderland, built, Nicaragua flag, VELTA was photographed passing Portishead, inbound for Avonmouth from Dakar with a cargo of phosphate rock, at dawn on 1st June 1970, exactly fifty years ago this morning.

The Latvian Master Captain Slayer was on the Diamond to familiarise himself with her. Apparently they had intended to use the Nicaraguan flag for her but for some reason the Liberian was used instesd
