I believe that as the Velta she was owned by a Nicaraguan /Latvian syndicate and commanded by a Captain Slayer, a Latvian Master Mariner who arrived in the UK during WW2. with a Latvian Masters Certificate which he had translated to English by the Latvian Consulate.
He later passed the UK Masters Certificate and purchased a Panamanian Masters certificate for $50

The last Sugar Line Master on the Crystal Diamond was Captain Griffiths and I sailed with him shortly after her sale, hence the info.
The Latvian Master Captain Slayer was on the Diamond to familiarise himself with her. Apparently they had intended to use the Nicaraguan flag for her but for some reason the Liberian was used instesd

SPIDOLA (IMO 5336739) had been nominally owned since 1958 by P.Danneberg, a Latvian who had started ship owning at Riga in 1911. I suspect that the beneficial owner of VELTA and VANDA (ex CRYSTAL DIAMOND) may have been Danneberg, or someone linked with him.

In the photos she appears to have a yellow funnel with a large red V
The Velta (ex Crystal Diamond) had the same funnel and I assume the same owners and Captain
