Description:

The C1-M-AV1 "Pocket Liberty" type ATHEN was operated by Vania Compania Naviera S.A. (N.Tsimaras) between 1972 and 1980. Here she is seen passing Rozenburg outbound from Rotterdam on 3rd August 1973 following a voyage from the small Spanish port of San Carlos in the Balearic Sea.

Launched at Savannah on 30.6.45 as SOLID SINNET, she was completed at Tampa in December 1947 as AULNE for Cie. de Nav. Paquet of Marseille.

Sold to Greece in 1965 she had traded as SERENE MED until 1972.

Laid up at Piraeus on 12th February 1979 she finally arrived at Castellon in May 1980 for breaking.

I am now advised as follows:

Prior to being laid up at Piraeus she had been laid up and arrested at Split. Having arrived on 26th October 1978 to load beech planks for Alexandria, something went wrong and the cargo was never loaded. She was laid up and later arrested by the Port authority. Finally she was released on 7th February 1979 and sailed for Piraeus only to again be laid up.
