Description:

'Ton' class minesweeper M1115 Bronington paying a courtesy visit to Workington, Cumbria, and yes, Charlie was in charge............

built : Cook Welton & Gemmel, Beverley
LD - 30:05:1951 : L - 19:03:1953 : C - 06:1954

1954 renamed HMS Humber and assigned to 101st Minesweeping Squadron in the RNVR Humber Division based in Hull
1958 : re-commissioned as HMS Bronington

She was eventually taken out of service in 1988, and was owned by the Bronington Trust until mid 2002 when she was passed to the Warship Preservation Trust and moved from Salford Quays to Birkenhead.

I remember that visit well as I was on leave at the time and just got back onboard as they were about to sail! I just made it but got "Captain's Table" and was awarded 10 days stoppage of pay and 10 days leave. As we were at sea the 10 days leave didn't matter but the stoppage of pay was a bit sore!
