I'm happy to complement the history in pictures of the Greek motor vessel GIANNIS DIMAKIS II (IMO 5237359) on Shipspotting. She is seen here in Septemer 1983 in the port of Rhodes. So, she was used as a general cargo ship in het opriginal guise for quite some time, before being shifted to the sand and gravel trade, fitted out with a dragline as seen on later pictures. Does anyone know when this took place? And has she been in lay-up before being sold dor scrapping?
Note that she was the Dutch MITHRAS before being sold to Cyprus. Full particulars are:
Built 1959 at E.J. Smit & Zn's Scheepswerven, Westerbroek, NLD. Yard nr. 749. Tonnages 495 grt, 940 dwt. Shelterdeck type coaster. Dimensions 64.9 x 9.9 m. Engine 750 hp Werkspoor diesel, 10,5 kn. 1959 MITHRAS (Nieuwe Kustvaart Mij., Amsterdam, NLD, mgrs. KNSM, Royal Dutch Steamship Co.). 1972 SMITHRA (Smithra Navigation Ltd., Famagusta), CYP. 1973 GIANNIS DIMAKIS II (Dimakis Shipping Co., Mytilene), GRE. 2008 sold for breaking up at Kurzan Ltd., Aliaga, Turkey.
